How to Use CoveScreen's Data & Log Analyzer

A comprehensive analytical pipeline for business analysts, database administrators, and DevOps engineers.

01

Select Your Analysis Workspace

Choose either the CSV Data Analyzer or the Log Analyzer from the navigation bar. You can toggle between both workspaces seamlessly without losing imported datasets, active filters, or generated charts.

02

Import Your Data or Load Sample Datasets

Drag and drop any .csv, .txt, .log, .json, or .jsonl file, or click 'Load Demo Data' to immediately experiment with enterprise sales records, hardware registers, or production microservice logs. Everything processes locally in your browser.

03

Review Data Quality & Statistical Distributions

For CSV data, inspect column type classifications, parametric & non-parametric descriptive statistics (mean, median, IQR, percentiles), and data quality scores. Use reversible cleaning tools to trim whitespace and deduplicate records.

04

Investigate Errors, Patterns & Timelines

For system and server logs, examine severity distribution cards, normalized error pattern clusters, IP address statistics, and interactive timeline incident curves to diagnose infrastructure health in minutes.

05

Generate Visualizations & Export Cleaned Results

Create interactive bar charts, scatter plots, correlation heatmaps, or timeline incident breakdowns. Export cleaned datasets with built-in formula injection protection or print comprehensive executive reports.

Statistical Reference

Formula Methodology & Algorithms

Mathematical formulas, variance conventions, and outlier detection models implemented across the suite.

Sample Variance & Standard DeviationStatistics
s² = Σ(xᵢ - x̄)² / (n - 1) and s = √s²

Measures the dispersion of data points around the mean. Sample variance uses Bessel's correction (dividing by n - 1) to provide an unbiased estimator for sample populations.

Population Variance & Standard DeviationStatistics
σ² = Σ(xᵢ - μ)² / n and σ = √σ²

Measures dispersion when the dataset represents the entire complete population rather than a subset.

Interquartile Range (IQR)Statistics
IQR = Q₃ - Q₁

The spread of the middle 50% of the dataset, calculated using linear rank interpolation between the 25th (Q₁) and 75th (Q₃) percentiles.

Tukey's Outlier FencesOutliers
Lower = Q₁ - 1.5×IQR | Upper = Q₃ + 1.5×IQR

Identifies non-parametric data anomalies. Values falling outside the 1.5×IQR boundary are classified as mild outliers; values exceeding 3.0×IQR are classified as extreme outliers.

Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r)Statistics
r = Σ(xᵢ - x̄)(yᵢ - ȳ) / [√Σ(xᵢ - x̄)² √Σ(yᵢ - ȳ)²]

Quantifies linear correlation between two numerical variables from -1.0 (perfect inverse correlation) to +1.0 (perfect direct correlation), where 0 indicates no linear relationship.

Data Quality ScoreQuality
Score = max(0, 100 - [P_missing + P_duplicates + P_empty + P_whitespace])

Weighted composite health metric assessing dataset integrity, completeness, and cleanliness before running analytical models.

Log Pattern NormalizationLogs
Regex substitution: IP, UUID, 0xHEX, Numbers → <VAR>

Abstracts volatile runtime identifiers from error strings to cluster recurring incidents into consolidated failure signatures.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to technical questions regarding local privacy, supported log structures, and file limits.

Is my business data or system log uploaded to remote servers or third-party AI services?

No. All parsing, descriptive statistics, log pattern grouping, and chart rendering run 100% locally inside your web browser via client-side JavaScript. Your files, proprietary sales figures, client IP addresses, and infrastructure error traces are never transmitted across the network.

What file formats and delimiters does the CSV Data Analyzer support?

The CSV Analyzer supports standard RFC 4180-compliant .csv and .txt files. It automatically detects comma (,), semicolon (;), tab (\t), and pipe (|) delimiters, handles multiline quoted cells, and accommodates datasets with or without header rows.

What log file formats and severity standards are supported?

The Log Analyzer natively parses Apache Combined/Common access logs, Nginx logs, Linux Syslog (RFC 3164/5424), standard timestamped application logs, JSON/JSONL structured logs, and plain text event streams. It identifies CRITICAL, FATAL, ERROR, WARNING, INFO, DEBUG, and TRACE severities with automatic fallback inference.

How is the Data Quality Score calculated?

The Data Quality Score starts at 100 and applies transparent mathematical deductions based on missing cell frequency (up to 35 pts), duplicate row signatures (up to 25 pts), completely empty rows/columns (up to 25 pts), and irregular whitespace formatting (up to 15 pts). An explanation panel itemizes each factor.

What is CSV Formula Injection protection?

When exporting CSV files opened in desktop spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice, cells starting with =, +, -, @, or tab characters can inadvertently trigger executable macros or Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) formulas. CoveScreen automatically sanitizes and prefixes these triggers with a safe single quote (') to protect your systems.

What are the recommended file-size and record limits?

Because processing occurs in your browser's V8 engine, datasets up to 25 MB or approximately 50,000 rows / log entries deliver optimal real-time rendering and interactive charting without browser tab sluggishness. Exceeding limits prompts safety warnings.

Can I revert data cleaning operations?

Yes. The CSV Data Analyzer preserves an immutable snapshot of your original imported dataset. You can apply multiple cleaning passes (deduplication, whitespace trimming, date normalization) and revert back to the raw source data at any point.

Does Pearson correlation imply causality between two variables?

No. Pearson's r measures the linear association between two numerical series on a scale of -1 to +1. High correlation indicates that changes in one variable coincide with changes in another, but it does not establish cause and effect without controlled experimentation.
